Hi Lovelies!

Today is mothers day in Sweden and a day to celebrate all mothers and their hard work.

My mom Jankeh!

As a womanist and a daughter i genuinely value the efforts of the Black woman and I know a lot of families owe the existence of their family unit to strong beautiful black women. Many of you know that i grew up being raised by my mother Jankeh, my grandmother YA and my aunties so to say that i owe everything that i am yo my mother would be an understatement. My mother had me when she was 17 years old and can you imagine what a burden of responsibility that is for a young woman? I am today 31 years old and childfree and i cannot begin to imagine how different my life would be had i had a child. They say a mother is born the day a child is born which means effectively my mom has been a mother for more than 31 years to both me and my two brothers Ibrahim and Saul. That is the majority of her life!!!

My mind is blown!

Thinking about my mother and all that she has accomplished, I began to think about all the other young Black women who have thrived as mothers despite people writing them off, just because they had children “too young.” In our society, there is a stigma attached to having a baby at a young age. Especially in the Black community.  As if age is an appropriate measure of someone’s capacity to raise a child. And it’s not just the young mothers’ ability to care for a child that they question, some feel that having a child at an early age puts a halt to all future career plans. Luckily in my family my grandmother also stepped up and helped my mother in raising me in the same way i know my mom would help me raise my future children.

I kid you not when i say that i know being a mother is exhausting! If i just base it on my relationship with my mom. Every heartache of ours is her heartache, every disappointment we have in this life is her disappointment, every pain (even a broken nail) is her pain, every breakup she goes through it with us until we heal and move on, she wakes up when we wake up. She picks up our calls even if it is 4 am at night.

And

on the flip side every victory we have is her victory, every excitement is her excitement, she POURS her wisdom into our ears on a daily basis, encourages us whenever we feel the world is against us and most importantly!!!

HER PRAYERS is always with us wherever we go. My mother doesn’t sleep when we sleep! My mom is always up right before the dawn at 4am for her daily prayers. She once told me that God hears her better at that time of day. I personally believe that our moms are our mouth pieces to god just like the quote at the start of this post, God could not be everywhere and that is why he gave us our mothers to guide us, to love us, to be with us through our lifetimes in person and in spirit.

If anyone living today has a long hard think about life and wherever they may be in life…whether or not your mom is in your life…you should be grateful nonetheless. Because at one point in your life your mother had brief choice during childbirth to give you life or to take it away. Your mother went to the brink of her life in order to give you life. Now whether circumstances made her a ”good” mother or not is a subjective opinion that every person has a right to. But in my world and in my Universe Black women deserve every praise they receive whether they be mothers or childless. Our society would not be the same without them as the backbone of it!

I know I would not be the person I am without my mother by my side. For that i truly know god and the universe sent me an angel to guide me through my journey in this life.

If you have a relationship with your mom on this day make sure you show her that you care and appreciate and love her!

After this is typed up my brothers are picking em up and we are going to my moms house to eat some good food! watch movies and of course annoy her a little bit with our constant play fights where i always end up getting hurt since my brothers are both twice my height and size.

MAY GOD BLESS OUR MOTHERS!!!
